Slow development

My baby is 13 months and has only just started rolling over. He has no interest in moving and cannot play independently... we do tummy time everyday but it just ends up in hysterics. He has no motivation to do anything on his own. Its very draining.

I am.worried and we have been referred to a development specialist who says he might be autistic. He also has a dairy allergy so we didn't get any sleep for a long time but finally sleeping through now.

Has anyone else experienced this and when does it get easier?

You could have been writing about my DS (same age, also CMPA, also only started sleeping properly recently). Until very recently he would just sit and point and scream until we passed him something he wanted as opposed to trying to move to get it himself. He can roll but never does and has never come close to crawling or bum shuffling. Despises tummy time. It was completely and utterly draining. Babies this age can’t really play independently full stop, but at least the movers can get about to explore. Unhappy, static babies are exhausting.

In the last two weeks he’s started pulling up and cruising and he’s already a lot happier and easier and the whining has gone down exponentially.

Im amazed you’ve been referred for an autism assessment at 13 months off missed gross motor milestones alone? Are there other concerning aspects of his development other than his lack of movement?

Hope it gets better for you soon.

He will sit there and twine until he is either picked up or you get him the toy. Within a few mins, if you havent done either, he will throw himself onto the ground and kick and scream. No motivation whatsoever to get it himself or even attempt to try.

He is very behind on gross motor skills. He has also never put anything hand to mouth... ever. He will not feed himself or attempt to try as he just stares at the food or drops it when you give him it, he won't hold a bottle or sippy cup and he moves his hands all day :(

I was thinking about sending him to nursery to see if that helped things along but also worried it will stress him out and he will learn even less there.
