Screaming when washing hair

We have a 25 month old boy who a few months ago heated having his hair washed, but then got better and seemed to accept it no problem. About a month or so ago, he has really regressed when it comes to hair washing insofar as he will scream, shake and stand on tiptoes when his hair is being rinsed. We're using the same shampoo as we've always done, so don't think that's the issue.

He's fine in the bath, likes splashing about, likes water being poured over his back, but it's when his hair is being rinsed he really screams!!

Any suggestions??

Put some stickers on the ceiling and have him look at the rabbit, dinosaur, horse.... tell a story about the characters..... it is both a distraction and a way of having head really leaned back.

Ear infection? Water in his eyes? Stingy shampoo? We have the same issue, I use a small watering can and hold my hand over his forehead when I rinse, works really well. He won't lay down in the bath for me to rinse. I think once the soap got into his eyes and he remembers and just says no.
