Can your two year old squeeze?

My 26 month old can't "squeeze" her hands. She can hold, pull and everything, but not squeeze. Is this a development thing that comes with time, or a bit odd?

For example, she plays with play dough but can't squish a ball of it if you put it in her hand, barely makes a finger mark on it. You can see her trying so it's not like she doesn't know how.

She has a toy that requires you to squeeze the handle that she's had since Christmas, often brings it out to play but can't get the hang off.

She has a light weight balance bike, she wraps her hands around the ends(sides?) Of the handle bars, instead of griping them properly.

Is this just a toddler thing?

This is the sort of thing that develops between 2 and 3...some can do it at 2 and some take longer. Consider using empty bottles...the softer plastic ones...to get her to shoot water as that's a bit easier. Also playdoh daily.

Ah thank you. The water bottle idea sounds fun Smile
