Biting during breastfeeding

Teething 9 month old combined fed DS is biting during breastfeeding. Sometimes at the start and sometimes towards the end of feed. I really want to continue breastfeeding him but his biting hurts! I've tried the usual by giving him a teether when he does it but he cries for the breast and just starts biting. Any advice or success stories please?

You have my sympathy as DS started this at around 7 months.

I fed him lying down fir a couple of days, a BFC told me that it sometimes works as they find it harder to to bite.

This article from Kellymom should be helpful as well.

If you do want to continue, I would definitely give one of the BFing Helplines a call though. I very heart gave up at 7 months and it was only calling them that got me to continue Smile

Thank you so much for replying @BunnyRuddington. The article from kellymom is useful. I'm lucky I'm in contact with a lovely infant feeding specialist so she has been guiding me but just thought to hear of others who might have gone through this. I think it's because in the day I'm usually at work so my milk supply is lower during the day so now if I feed him in the weekend during the day, he might have realised I have low milk supply and hence the biting. I've noticed he feeds so much better during the night. Going to try to persevere as I really don't want to give up bf. Thank you once again.

Do you think that it might be worth trying breast compressions during the daytime feeds?

Good idea @BunnyRuddington but sometimes he bites as soon as I've put breast in his mouth, but only during the daytime feeds. Night time he latches on just fine and feeds well.
