Could my 8 month old have autism?

I'm a bit concerned about my babies behaviour. He twists his hands on his wrists constantly. He smiles, babbles and laughs. He's just started saying 'mamamamama'. But he doesn't particularly smile at me when I smile at him. He'll smile more so if I'm playing (like peekaboo) throwing him up and down (gently) etc. He keeps staring at lights and twisting his wrists but I noticed the other babies and playgroup don't do this.
He also does this growling noise when he's excited. He does give eye contact but not for long. Do you think it sounds like he may have autism or just a typical baby? I know he's still young to be able to properly tell but I'm so worried about it.

He also doesn't care if I leave or enter a room

I have an 8 month old who is similar in some ways and I also sometimes feel a little worried.
She laughs, smiles and babbles like your DS and loves peekaboo as well. Her eye contact can be excellent but when she’s plays with her toys she does become very engrossed. She doesn’t really seem to know her name and like you said about the leaving and entering the room sometimes she’s not bothered because she’s focussed on what she’s doing and other times I get a big smile and screech of happiness when I come in.
I’m going to follow this one with interest and hope there will be some helpful
Replies.

@Danielle1989x yes he's an absolutely normal neurotypical 2 year old now :-) very clever, talking alot and his twisting wrists completely went by about 15 months old.
