Is this normal behaviour?

DS1 is almost 3. Very chatty, sweet, active etc. Normal toddler stuff

But he’s very very very shy around people he doesn’t know well (sometimes even with people he does know for a little while)

He used to just ignore people until he’d warmed up but he’s now started having tantrums, rolling around the floor and crying.

It’s like he doesn’t know how to process the shy/embarrassed emotions so it comes out as a tantrum

Is this normal, toddler behaviour?

I've not experienced it but then I've not had a child who has spent pretty much half of his life in lockdown.

If he goes to childcare, have they said anything?

I’ve discussed with them at length if they’re concerned at all as he’s very shy there. Isn’t comfortable talking to the adults (unless 1 on 1) but will talk to the children

They’ve said they think he’s just a reserved child. Developmentally hitting all his milestones and has friends etc. He’s just very shy.

He also hasn’t had tantrums there…he only goes 2 days a week and is well behaved
The tantrums are happening when he’s at home and someone comes in
