Worried about 5mo development

My just turned 5 month DS is on the 75th percentile for weight and height - this may be relevant. I'm worried about his physical development. He is nowhere close to rolling. He still hates tummy time and lasts 5 minutes at most before face planting and crying. He still has a bit of head lag when pulling to sit. He lifts his head a bit doing tummy time.

On the plus side he is quite sturdy when you hold him on your knee and doesn't need loads of support, this is how he prefers to be. He is also reaching for toys in his toy arch.

Socially he seems ok, he is very chatty to us and his teddies, loads of smiles. Worships his older brother and is constantly trying to catch his attention with squeals or big grins.

But he seems behind in his gross motor skills? Should I be worried here?

He also hates floor time and screams if on the floor after a few minutes!

No need to worry, sounds like other aspects of him are doing well, just atm his gross motor skills are abit behind.
Even him hating tummy time just give him the opportunity to practice. Give him time, maybe next week or next month. Babies are constantly evolving.

Thank you, does anyone else have a baby who was like this at 5 months? Were they ok?

He sounds lovely! Maybe try a bit of tummy time lying down with him on your chest so you can distract him. Or just build it up a tiny bit at a time. You can improve the head lag with some gentle pull to sit exercises.

Starfish Therapies on YouTube have some brilliant videos. The rolling will come. 5 months isn't particularly delayed for rolling anyway.

He's clearly interested in toys which might help keep him in the mood longer too. He's reaching so sounds like his fine motor is good and definitely his social/communication stuff! He's probably just working on other things.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll have a look. I'm doing as much tummy time with him as he can bear. He also isn't weight bearing on his legs. Did anyone elses child behave this way and caught up?

My DD HATED tummy time with a passion. She didn’t roll until 8.5 months, then army crawled at 10.5 months. She’s almost 13 months and crawling on all fours, pulling herself up and cruising along the sofa.

Some babies just hate tummy time but he’ll catch up soon Smile

Try to not worry, I know it's easier said than done, but all babies develop at such different rates. He is still tiny and is obviously learning other skills.

Thank you, I'm really struggling with not worrying, it's taking over my thoughts a bit Sad
