Empathy from a 4 year old

My little boy is 4 and I'm just becoming concerned that he doesn't show any empathy/compassion but at the same time am I expecting too much?
Don't get me wrong, he loves a cuddle and we have a good relationship but I just feel he shows no compassion. If someone hurt themself he'd never show attention, he's not interested in other people's birthdays or giving gifts, hates saying sorry he wasn't bothered about Mother's Day and doesn't get excited for other people. I sound horrible saying These things about my son and I hate that I'm making this post, but he's my eldest and I don't know whether he's just still quite young and normal behaviour?
The more I try and push these things the angrier he gets about it all! Do I just leave it and let it come on naturally... or should I be concerned?
He is a lovely little thing, but I just don't know how to crack this!

My DD was the same! She's 16 now and fine. Some kids just pick that up later. If he's happy and socialising ok, don't worry too much.

He does socialise well and loves to play at nursery! Sometimes I wonder if he's holding back in SOME things because I try and push them too much 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't know. I just want everyone to see the lovely boy I see and to set good compassionate values!
Thank you for the reply though, so lovely to hear!
