Baby Screaming Phase

Diggo83 · 20/05/2021 16:34

Our 8 month old has started screaming in the last few days, not in pain or crying way just an ear piecing shreek which he seems to have just learnt to do and does it at all times even when happy.

Any idea how long it lasts and how to get through it or stop him from doing it?

Don't try to stop him too much. It's a key developmental phase of them practising with noise. I know it's awful and can be annoying. He will grow out of it.

My LO couldn't hear and was non verbal for nearly two years. I would have killed to hear that screaming phase.

Yep its a phase, it'll pass...and probably come back again (my 2.4yo just had another phase of it, thankfully it has passed again). Just one of those things you've got to ride out. As pp said, its developmentally appropriate and is part of the experimenting/learning...and its fun (...much less so for you..!). You could try encouraging other sound experiments to break it up a bit for your sanity when he does it - like a bibble bibble bibble with his lip? Might be worth a go.

I am in the same boat with my 7.5 month old. My lord is it annoying! I love him dearly but it cuts through me!! Hes already a grumpy baby so trying to get him to sleep tonight i very nearly put in ear plugs. Ive read its developmental but i hope this one is over soon!

Oh my goshh I'm glad it's just developmental, I thought he was trying to tell me something 😂

No it's developmental and really bloody annoying. I've always tried to ignore it.
