1 year old DS just fallen out of pushchair, am worried

He managed to work the straps of his push chair down over his arms, push up and when my back was turned fell out. I dont know how he fell or where he landed (ie if he bashed his head or not, I'm guessing he must have). I turned round at a thud, he was flat on his back wailing. We've got no carpet, just parquet so it was a real whack. I cant see any bruise yet and 2 bits of chocolate and loads of cuddles later he seems ok but should I take him to the docs or A&E or anything to check him out?

Did he cry immediately? that's a good sign if he did. I would be worried if he was dazed or vomiting.

It's very unlikley that he's done major damage falling out of his pushchair.

You can phone your GP and ask for their advice.

he bawled immediately. he's had his lunch and didnt play with his food, ate everything. He's dozing off now but he always does around this time
Should I let him sleep do you think? GP surgery closed til tomorrow and no out of hours number so its only a&e as an option

My friend's DD fell from her high chair onto a hard kitchen floor and NHS direct advised just keeping an eye on her unless there was any fluid coming from the ears, unusual drowsiness, crying etc. It sounds like your DS would be fine but trust your instincts.

I would keep a close eye on him while he sleeps. I remmeber when my dd1 banged her head I was told to check her hourly through the night. I slept in her room. I had to look into her eyes and shine a torch into them to make sure her pupils were reacting ok.

I am pretty sure they also said that sleep was normal after a minor head injury and to just rouse the LO slightly every hour or so.

I would keep a close eye on him. ds2 also used to this at 1.5 I was talking to someone on a main road with him strapped in the buggy, the next thing he is stood next to me pulling on my coat . I felt awful that I hadnt noticed and that he could of stepped into the road. Someone advised me to put him in raines and in the buggy, probably underneath the padding is some d rings that you can put the straps of the raines through. It worked a treat, he never got out again despite him trying really hard. Hope he ok

Agree with keeping an eye, but sounds fine.
He may sleep a little longer than usual, you just need to check he is okay, breathing fine etc.
Children tend to sleep shock off.
DS1 cut his foot badly not long ago and after the normal crying etc, promptly went to sleep as if he had an On/Off switch!
If he has eaten fine etc and is behaving as normal, don't worry.
You know him best. Trust your instincts. If you feel he needs to go, don't hold back.

thanks everyone, will check him when is awake and keep an eye but hopefully this is just a reminder to me to develop those eyes in the back of my head a bit more! Am now going to polish off the chocolate he didnt eat to treat my shock
