So I tried the 'offering' choices....

Ds1 is going through a period of refusing to go to bed, it's getting really wearing! He is 6.5, so really should be getting there by now! Anyway, this evening he went into the usual routine of 'I can't go to bed' and so I offered him the choice - to go up to bed now, or to lose the portable CD player he has in his room to listen to story discs on (I know, spoilt child!). So he duly lost his CD player, turned to me and said, very eloquently 'MUM, YOU have 2 choices - to give me my CD player back or be killed.'

I somehow think the 'choice' route is not going to work with my boy!

Of course for it to really work the choices are supposed to be two attractive choices eg
go to bed now and I'll have time to read you a story
or
play for 10 more minutes here and go to bed without a story

LOL!!! It's not just me then that this kind of stuff doesn't work for! I love it when they come out with grown-up sounding stuff when they don't really mean to.

DD2 crept into bed with me the other night. H ascends stairs, walks into bedroom.

H: What are you doing in here?
dd2: Sorry daddy, I've got a really blocked up nose and couldn't sleep.
H: Alright sweetie, (God, I hate that expression) Goodnight
Me to dd2: How did you keep a straight face?
dd2: By not looking at You

  • Tortoise - your DS sounds JUST like mine! Mine tries to do 'deals' as well.

And 2sugars - PMSL! She sounds a scream.
