Two Year Old Not Talking

That really. Toddler is 2yrs 2mths old, we have very few active words in his vocabulary. He can occasionally use ‘hiya’ and ‘tata/bye’ but nothing else in conversation.

He can however count to 10 perfectly and is now reciting the entire alphabet. Which is amazing, but I figured these things usually come later and basic words/instructions would come first.

Is this normal?

So sorry I can't really help but we are in the same situation with the age and lack of words. I've just posted about our LO not having any words at 27 months, apart from the occasional Aye for bye, and mumma and dadda at a push. Wow, that's really interesting about the alphabet and numbers! I would have thought the same as you, that basic words would come first but perhaps not. Has your LO had their hearing tested? Sorry I can't be of any help!

I follow Speech Sisters on Instagram who have some great tips. Knowing the alphabet and numbers is fine but it won't help him communicate his needs so they emphasise focusing on functional words first e.g. more, up, down, help and have some great tips.
