DS 4 hysterical with splinter

So today my DS nearly 4 got a massive splinter in his finger today, and my god he was absolutely hysterical at the thought of me trying to get it out.
I've never seen anything like it, he was screaming no no no and I got so frustrated as if he had just let me at it I could see the end and would have just got it out quickly! But the actual thought of giving me his hand to do it sent him into a frenzy and we tried everything so I'm currently sat waiting for him to be asleep enough so I can do it when he's asleep 😂
I think the fear of not knowing if it will hurt was making him hysterical.
Is this normal behaviour?! Anyone else's kids get like this?! How do you manage?
My mum said I was exactly the same at that age 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
Pass the wine 🍷 😂

I was and still am a bit like this. I'm extremely sensitive to injury, blood etc. Even the smallest injury makes me lose it. Obviously I've got better through having kids but I have to really control myself when I get hurt or someone near me does.

One of my kids is like this but the other isn't. What helps is to wrap the child up tightly in a blanket, give them something to hold and play with and distract them hard....I have been known to sing loudly etc. while I deal with their injuries.

What were you going to take it out with? I think it's not unusual to worry that something you've never experienced might hurt.
Did you get it out?
