Are there any SALTs aound? Need some advice...

dd4 is 6, will be 7 in February.

She attended a SALT when she was 4 as was having problems with her speech. She was 'discharged' before she was 5, much to my surprise as her speech was still far from perfect. However, the SALT advised me that many of the letters she was failing to pronounce would develop naturally with age and she should be pronouncing all letters properly around 6 years of age.

Well, as I said, she is almost 7 now and is still not pronouncing 'l', 'r' or 'th'. She can pronounce 'l' and 'th' on their own, but not when incorporated into a word. She cannot pronounce 'r' atall.

Am I right to be very concerned about this? Should I contact the SALT again or have I left it too late?

Sorry- I'm not a SALT, but hopefully this might bump for Moondog (I think?) or any other SALT MNer. Surely you can't go wrong by speaking to the SALT anyway? Nobody's going to criticize you for caring about your child.

Yes, I will speak to them on Monday. Just feel a bit bad for not having done it sooner but kept hoping that she would improve.

It's not a serious issue at all.
It will come.
With a stretched salt service,it is hard to justify spending expensive therapist's time on such a mnor matter.(I don't actually do this sort of work anyome as I deal with people with sever learning difficuties who are mostly non verbal).

However,as her mother, of course it bothers you.
It might be worth paying for a one off private session and asking the salt to give you home exercises.

Gibberish... I used the same site as Moondog has just linked to find an independent one. She was excellent, well worth the money. It was probably the home exercises which did the trick, but I needed sby to point me in the right direction, and it was great just knowing his progress was being monitored professionally.

Moondog, thanks so much for replying and putting my mind at rest. Really appreciate it Had a look at the site and the nearest is 30 miles away though! But as you say, even a one off consultation will help. Am going to phone around tomorrow.
