Put my mind at ease - not crawling!

DS is 8.5 months old. EBF but also enthusiastically eating. 97th centile for weight and 91st for height. Hates tummy time - I swear he only finally learnt to roll to escape tummy time! Grin was late to smile and laugh but that was put down to ++ colic - he does both regularly now. Has mastered sitting in the last week or so. Ie has been pretty late for most milestones.

He is so far away from crawling it is ridiculous. Hasn’t even got to the stage of pushing up on his arms and knees. Just flounders on his front before rolling onto his back. Likes being supported in standing position but also nowhere near cruising.

Is this okay? I’m putting it down to a combination of him being a bit chunky and strong willed - I shouldn’t be getting a HV/GP review? Cheers

Sounds normal to me. My DD is 10.5 months and not crawling and only recently started pushing up on her arms on her belly - I’m not worried though, she’ll do it when she’s ready. Smile

Thank you so much! It’s so hard as a first timer in these abnormal circumstances getting emails saying ‘by now your 8 month old will be freely pushing up on their hands and knees, if not already crawling and cruising!’

Mine was 11 months when crawling now almost 14 months and did her first independent steps yesterday :-) At 8.5 months she was happy to just sit and look at things

I think bigger babies tend to be slower as they have a lot more weight to lift so it takes longer to build up the strength. I’ve had two skinny, squirmy little things that both crawled at 7 months. Their cousin was a gorgeous chunk of a baby that didn’t move under his own steam until he was over a year. They all get there in the end.
