17mo not talking

My 17mo babbles a lot but doesn't actually talk yet. He has about 3 or 4 words but that is all. He does understand us when we talk to him, for eg. If I ask him to get his shoes or his water he does go and get the right object. Should I be worried yet?

That's all normal. The expected is 6 words by 18MO and even if that's not happened it isn't necessarily concerning. Mine couldn't say much at 17MO. She's about to turn 3 and literally doesn't shut up now and uses some fairly complex vocabulary and can recite a number of songs and stories. Don't stress x
