2 year old not speaking in sentences

My ds turned 2 the beginning of February. His speech has always been a bit behind. It's literally in the past 3 months that he has said any words at all. Now he probably can say around 50-100 words. He can count and say the numbers up to 20, knows what the numbers look like and recognises them. He can also say the alphabet and can recognise the letters. He still doesn't attempt to put words into sentences. Any tips how to encourage this?

If he's developing his speech that quickly, I'm not sure that you need to do much more apart from chatting to him.

It sounds like he's coming along quickly now, but it might help to sort of show him what the next step is. He's using one word, so use plenty of just 2 or 3 word phrases/sentences. He says 'more', you say 'more apple', even if afterwards you say 'you want more apple'. He says 'fall down', you say 'you fell down', etc. That way he hears lots of examples of how to take what he's saying just a little bit further.
