Terribly twos????

My almost 22 month old has always been very well behaved, not generally a whiny child and has always played well independently. He knows lots of words but I do sometimes wonder if he understand a lot of what I'm saying.

He has recently become very clingy, for example in the past if he was playing and I went to the loo / popped into another room he wouldn't even notice. Now - he follows me everywhere I go. He has also started screaming blue murder in the car if I leave him for even a second. Eg if I put him in the car on the driveway and run to close to front door, I come back and he's red in the face tears streaming the lot.

We are also getting a lot more tantrums. He doesn't want to be carried ANYWHERE. Normally I will pick him up and carry him out the car to the supermarket trolley for example, or from nursery to the car, but he now screams and tries to wriggle out my arms. I don't have an issue with him walking, but if I let him walk he just walks wherever he wants. I'm the opposite direction to where we are going and he completely ignores me trying to encourage him to come with me. So I end up having to pick him up again, cue another tantrum. I am 35 weeks pregnant but I really don't think he registers that at all so don't think it's related. Just at a loss and wondering what to do to help him, especially with the walking. I'm happy for him to walk everywhere, I don't mind him being slow (so am I at 35w pregnant!) but he needs to learn to follow me!

Any advice???

I'm in the same boat with mine, so sorry I can't offer much advice, only solidarity! My 20 month old has been horrendous recently! Have you tried reins? Didn't work with mine (she would just fall over all the time when the reins prevented her from walking into the road etc!) but might be worth a try? Especially as you don't want to be lifting too much while heavily pregnant.

I use reins for my little girl, she's the exact same. It was something I never thought I would do but honestly, she just walks where she wants. She won't hold my hand like her big sister did etc. She won't come back if I call her etc and she's fast! I have been taking her for daily walks with the reins on and she is getting better I feel. That being said, I let her off them at the park or in open areas near no roads etc and she still just goes off and doesn't look back! I'm hoping it just comes with age.
