Hi all

My LO will be 8 months on Saturday and below are the things he can do.

  • army crawls
  • sits up from lying down
  • bears weight well
  • babbles; mama, dada, uh oh, nanny
  • can find missing object when putting under pot
  • grabs everything
  • puts everything in mouth
  • only sometimes responds to name
  • reaches out for hands when putting arms out to him - would you class that as reaching out? (Silly question)
  • sometimes looks to where I’m pointing
  • follows objects well
  • watches things drop and picks up
  • puts toys into container
  • bangs objects together
  • is fine with new people - it doesn’t faze him
  • looks at everything around him
  • makes good eye contact
  • watches people enter and leave room
  • doesn’t mimic
  • kisses reflection but not overly fussed
  • twirls hands and looks at them for a couple of minutes
  • sort of waves?
  • Bring a hands together and sort of hits them together
  • blows raspberries
  • holds bottle by himself
  • holds cup by himself

I’m a first time mum so unsure what milestones should be reached at what age etc as I don’t like going on google as you tend to go down a rabbit hole!

Thank you!

Sounds perfect to me xx

Thank you! I try not to go on google to check as you open up a can of worms! I didn’t know whether to class him reaching out when he grabs my hands and doesn’t really look in the mirror just sort of snogs it instead 😂 xx

I think milestones are a good guideline but you have to look at the whole child too. He's clearly if anything ahead with his social skills and on his way to first words. His motor skills also on the whole sound well on track. Sometimes they just don't do something for a while then skip to being a pro at it. I think he sounds fine xx

As someone whose developmentally delayed 19 month old can't even do some of these things, I spend hours endlessly googling. Your little one sounds completely right and even ahead on some!

My almost 10 month old doesn’t do over half of those things 😂 sounds like he’s doing well!
