Pretend fighting - is this normal?

Last night, I could hear strange noises coming from DD1s room. When I looked in on her, she had two teddies in her hands, and she was pretending they were having an argument and fight. She is 2.5 yrs, she only goes to nursery half a day once a week on a Thursday, and this was Wednesday night, so she wouldn't have picked it up from there. We never have adult tv on when she is awake (except maybe the odd episode of Countdown (should I have confessed to that?!)), and the only children's tv she watches is NickJR, Ceebeebies and Milkshake on Ch 5. I did find it quite disturbing. Where could she have picked this up, and is this normal?

Oh my goodness, I have just started, and my chosen name was "fairydust", which has already been taken, so I went to change it to "angelmummy", but it somehow went wrong and called me angeldust, and my husband has just told me what that is (naive or what!). No wonder nobody is talking to me. Sorry!! Please read the message below, except ignore "angeldust", its "angelmummy"!! Any advice please - I honestly don't come from a drug dealing household, so that isn't the answer!!!

Maybe it's just a way of her sorting out different emotions or her reaction to discipline - ie, one teddy is 'good' and one teddy is 'bad'. The 'bad' teddy say, wants to eat ice-cream all day but the 'good' teddy won't let him.

Hi, thanks for replying, I was getting worried that I had offended absolutely everybody ! I didn't hear any actual words, but she was talking in two different tones, mimicking an argument (I'm making her sound like a nutter), and she seemed to be getting them to hit each other. We come from a non-smacking household. I suppose she could have seen other kids fighting at a mother and toddler group maybe, but it was the hitting that shocked me.

mine do the most horrific things to their toys. And everything is kill kill kill! I was slightly perturbed to say the least.Believe it or not, thir bible stories seems to be the main source of the violence & aggression - can't get enough of David killing Goliath (some versions of the TODDLER bible even mention cutting off his head! I left that bit out, but dh didn't & they LOVED it! And as for the crucifixion.... If anyone annoyed them, they'd shout 'I'm gonna send you to the Roman Govenor'.

So I wouldn't worry about it. I really do think it's a normal stage of making sence of the world. the punishments handed pout to thise poor teddies........ And apparently, they're always much tougher to the toys than happens to them, so don't worry you're beoing too harsh. It's mentioned in 'what to expect the toddler years ' book.

My DD had her toy animals doing play fighting at the same age, AngelD. She picked it up from children's videos, since we don't even have a TV. Never occurred to me to be disturbed by it... she wrestles a lot with her big brother, too (she starts it!). She's a pretty tame/docile kid, really, too.
