I’ve just completely blown my top with DS4, who had flung himself from the top of the sofa and cracked his head on the table. I thought he’d killed himself.

He’s fine but my nerves are shot.

Sorry- said DS jogged my arm and posted accidentally!

He’s incredibly bright- particularly wrt to language/ comprehension, puzzles and problem solving (that’s not coming from me- it’s his key workers and other staff at nursery that have made it clear to me that he’s quite advanced in these areas- he’s a bit “young” on emotional regulation and isn’t at all willing to engage with phonics for instance) but he has absolutely ZERO sense of danger, and will not listen to me if I ask him to desist a dangerous behaviour. It’s something his nursery key worker has also commented on. At first it was “he’s fearless!” but recently “he just doesn’t CARE about danger” has been the kind of descriptor used.

And that’s him. To a t. Doesn’t care about consequences.

I know he’s 4, and this is probably very normal but it’s so pronounced I’m starting to feel worried.

He’s my only child and I’m a LP, so nobody to discuss this with who’s with him like I am. Other adults do notice it though.

I don’t want to medicalise or pathologise normal behaviour-can anyone reassure me this is normal, and grey hair and heart attacks are just the price we pay for active, adventurous children?!

Oh and should add-
He’s at forest school 4 days a week and of the other 3 days, we spend one or two outside for between 2 and 5 hours, exploring woodlands, canals, heaths, at the playground... he’s not lacking for outlets for energy. At all.
