How to deal with 3yr old's increased relaince on dummy ?

DS (3 and a bit) has always had a dummy but just at night-time or if poorly during the day. He has always been great at giving it up when asked. Last few weeks have seen him become almost constantly attached to it. If I take it off him he gets increasingly distressed and upset. Any ideas how I should deal with this ? Should I just let him have it and hope it is a phase ? Should I take it off him altogether ? btw he is being assessed for speech/social/communication difficulties and tends to just scream, cry and produce lots of tears if I take it off him...

hi my ds is 2.6 with speech delay has been told to me night time fine for dummy but not in day i too give it to him if tired or stressed when shopping at home only if tired which is very rare untill bed time

he also went through a phase of not wanting me to take dummy thing is at this age they are testing there boundries one to many tantrums we give in lol

anyway as soon as breakfast comes along he gives me dummy i put it away tell him what a big boy he is and distract from dummy ignore the tantrums and keep trying to distact if you make the most boring thing sound really fun they always give in in the end then tell him well done

as cruel as it is with delayed speech as our ds have it will not help them so it is a case of being cruel to be kind and given only when unwell or tired but even then maybe the unwell in day and the tired of a night

if my ds has dummy when were out he gives it to me when he gets home as his attempting to speak more now not to me but will copy what i'm saying and wont with dummy

good luck if ds gets really distressed and you cant calm him give it to him till calmed down then play a game get a sweet or somthing fruit remove dummy give him whatever it is and continue playing he should forget about dummy as distracted well it doesnt always work but does alot of the time if were doing playdoh
