1 year old 55cm head circumference - should we see GP?

Just that really.

For context I've just measured all our heads for bike helmets

Dh - 65
Me - 61
Dd nearly 3 - 53
Ds 20mo - 54

Should the kids heads be so big so young? They don't have any trouble with their eyes, they don't look out of proportion. DD surprised me tbh, I've always thought DS had a big skull but not the size of an adult woman.

Will I look stupid to speak to a GP over this?

My ds always had a big head and needed adult sized hats from a young age. It wasn't something I thought needed doctor intervention

So looking at the head circumference centile chart 54cm at 20 months puts your DS well above the 97th centile (which would be 50.7cm).

Your DD at 53cm at nearly 3 is also well above the 97th centile, which would be 51.4.

Whilst you may not be measuring it quite right, I'd say that is worth a GP visit. It's a small risk, so don't start googling and panic, but if it is hydrocephalus then you really want to get it diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible, since the damage is progressive. It can be missed - so if you aren't satisfied, then keep asking.

Agree that it's probably worth mentioning, especially it's a different centile than they were born on.
