15 months speech problems

My 5th child is 15 months and isn't really saying any words only babbling and saying dada/baba and shouts at me if he wants something.
The health visitor has made me feel like a failure as wants him to have speech therapy🙄
He's hitting all his other milestones....is there anything I can do to get him talking🤔

Firstly you're absolutely not a failure! Does he understood what you are saying, follow simple instructions?

15 months is very young and I'm surprised you've got a health visitor to agree to a salt referral. Often they like to watch and wait till 2. A lot can happen in a very short space of time at this age. I wouldn't be too worried at this stage but it's really positive that you have a referral pending as the waiting list can be lengthy. Hopefully he makes progress in the meantime but if not salt will be able to help you. Lots of things can be done to encourage speech by salt but personally at 15 months I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Some little ones just need more time than others.

I agree with the above on everything they said !!

My 23 month old wasn’t saying anything at 15 months . By 18 months I was worried and by 20 months I was reading up on speech therapy. Then out of nowhere came an explosion of words . He can now say well over 100 words ( I lost track ) and is starting to say small sentences.
