Does anyone know when I should change car seats fo 6month old?

my dd feet are pushing against the back seat slightly when in her car seat, should I change for a bigger one? she weighs about 19lb.

when she can sit unaided for 20 minutes and weighs around 20 lbs

Alot of second stage car seats start at around 9kg, not sure what that is in lbs though.

you need to check on the car seat what the maximum weight is - doesn't matter how old she is nor whether she can sit unaided. Keep her in the rear facing seat as long as possible - they are safer!

No legs don't matter, she just eneds ot bend them ! She needs to be 20lbs/9kg minimum (and most Stage 0+ can take a baby up to 28lbs) for a forward facing seat, with her eyelevel above the seat back.

i was in john lewis yesterday and was told that irrespective of age or weight, whendd head reaches/passes the top of the car seat is the time to change up - we have a maxi cosi,

As late as possible, it is best to keep them in the first stage carseat for as long as you can. Although they say around 20lb your baby should be over 9 months and as Lulu says sitting unaided for at least 20 mins. The important part is that her head isn't over the top of your carseat. As one fitter put it (rather bluntly) better a broken leg because they are sticking out than a broken head because they baby doesn't have the muscle tone to be forward facing.

I know this may sound silly but I didn't think of it for ages, is your carseat adjustable at all?

I've just read that link LIZS thanks v much. It does say only change when 13kg or if her head is over the top of the seat.

At my post-natal group we had a presentation on this by a professional. They need to be over 20lb, and able to sit up unaided. If they are too big for the seat but are not sitting up, or vice versa, then you need to get an interim seat which will be bigger and can rear-face until they fit both criteria, and then convert to forward facing.

we had the same problem but have only just switched to the next one-dd is 15months!
She was very long but very light and has only just reached 20lbs.

she was walking before we changed! we did it just before she reached the weight only because he seatbelt was digging badly into her crunched up legs leaving deep red lines that would take ages to go

we had a maxi cosi. we bought the new one when she was 7 months!!!

it is much safer for them to face backwards-i was told that in Norway they all do to past a year.
