What to know by school age?

My son is due to start school in September. I'm wondering what he should be able to do before he goes to school.

Are there any websites that say this?

Or personal things you wished you had prepped your child on?

Or just general stuff you think they should know and be able to do?

Thanks

Go to the loo independently, including wiping, flushing and hand washing

Able to put on and take off coat and hang it up

Assuming school dinners, can use all cutlery in the normal way and carry a loaded tray

Can blow own nose and chuck away tissue

Can change in and out of PE kit and can put the clothes they've just taken off in one heap, not strew them everywhere

Can follow a simple instruction

Can sit and listen to a story for a few minutes

Can recognise own name (or symbol on nametape)

That's a great list from Meditrina. Get him to do those things and he'll be fine Smile

Oh and there's a Primary Section in Education. You usually gets few threads from other MNers whose DC are due to start school in September. They're usually useful Smile

Try making a game of it or turn it into a race Smile
