Son being overprotective

Hi all!!

I have a DS and DH is away a lot on business. He's a young adult and very protective of me. He insists on going with me to ATMs, shops at night and anywhere near the estates in our area. Early last year he got into an argument-nearly-fight with an older man in the supermarket because he pushed past me and didn't say sorry. On the one hand I feel like my not-so-little-anymore boy is only looking after me but sometimes I worry he might be or become overdefensive in the future and wondering whether I need to speak to him about not worrying so much and toning it down.

Just wondering if anyone's been in the same boat. Shall I stop worrying and stop overthinking it or should I speak to him about it? i don't wanna make him feel like he cant be affectionate anymore because I know he's only doing it out of love.

You need to have a very frank conversation with him, no only for your sake, but for the sake of his future girlfriend /life/potential future daughters. Make it clear that love and control are not the same thing, that adults must have the right to make their own safety decisions, and that you need that freedom. Be calm and friendly, but firm.
