OK, reassure me - when did your LO start to crawl? (Not that I'm having a worry, or anything)

Because DD2 is now 10.5mo and, whilst she manages to get where she wants to be, she still isn't crawling. Her sister was a bum-shuffler, but DD2's actions aren't sufficiently co-ordinated to be considered bum-shuffling. She is starting to stand up (pre-cursor to cruising?).

stressteddy · 29/10/2007 20:52

If she's gettng where she wants to , then she has no need to do more
Also, the standing is adefo a pre-curser imo
Please don't worry
Enjoy the calm before the storm. When she's walking there'sll be no peace and and all you'll say is
"No"
"No, don't touch that"
"I said no"

Lakota · 29/10/2007 20:53

Sounds like she might just go straight to cruising, I'm sure some children don't bother with other ways of getting around if they've now got the strength in their legs.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/10/2007 20:55

DD started to move at about 10.5 months, but there is no way it could have been called crawling . She did a type of bottom shuffle, with one leg out behind her. Looked very funny, but she moved along.

(DS crawled in the usual way at 8.5 months. Both he and DD walked at 15 months.)

TattyCatty · 29/10/2007 20:56

DD didn't start crawling until she was 14 months old, and even then it was a really odd commando style wriggle along the floor. Didn't crawl properly until nearer 16 months or so, and although she can now walk unaided, is still not confident and prefers to crawl. Your little one will get going when she is good and ready - she's probably making the most of having an older sister to fetch and carry for her!

DontCallMeBaby · 29/10/2007 20:59

14 months - was utterly immobile before that. Then the day before we were all going on holiday, she crawled, no precursors at all (oh, except for standing up four days previously, having never so much as borne her weight on her legs before). 3.7 now and still a right dark horse, always turning out to be able to do stuff we've never seen her do before.

babypowder · 29/10/2007 22:04

Thank you! You'd think I'd be much more relaxed this time around, but no!

Hi, dd didn't crawl until she was over 11 months old. She was walked just before she turned 14 months old.

dreamingofsleep · 29/10/2007 22:13

The week before his 1st birthday whilst on a trampoline on holiday!

I attribute some of the delay to the curse of the wooden floor, he just wasn't able to get any friction with his knees. He crawled all over the carpeted holiday cottage floor then nothing when we got home - until we put a rug down!

hmm,
I I've had 2 at 6 1/2 months
two at about 71/2 months, one at 8 months and one who just got up and walked at 10 months, never crawled.
They all do things differently

bookofthedeadmum · 29/10/2007 22:27

My dd crawled after she learnt to walk (about 15mo) - she 'tumbled' her way around the room before that. Proper crawling came afterwards.

GreatBigHairyMonsterlapin · 29/10/2007 22:40

My DS crawled at 6m, walked at 10m. My neighbour's DD (same age) crawled at 13m, walked at 17m. The two of them were sprinting around together today, no difference.

ellehcim · 29/10/2007 22:44

DS1 was six months but best friend's little one is 1 next week and started crawling last week.

prettybird · 29/10/2007 22:57

Ds began commando crawling at 11 months, started cruising just before his first birthday, starting "ordinary" crawling not long after his first birthday, learnt to climb and descend stairs when he was 13 months (at his great granny's house in South Africa ) and started walking at 17 months.

He is now an extrmely active 7 year old who runs everywhere and loves football and rugby!

TheLadyEvenstar · 29/10/2007 23:04

ds1 never crawled he used to lay flat on his stomach with his arms in front of him and somehow managed to get along to where he wanted, he them got up and ran a week after his 1st birthday....never walked first..oh i hope ds2 does lol I was forever chasing ds1.

christywhisty · 29/10/2007 23:28

Ds comando crawled when he was 8 months then got up and walked when he was 10 months.

DD was a proper crawler about 11 months and walked at 13 months.

TheEvilDediderata · 29/10/2007 23:32

In answer to the OP, I baby-sat a 13 month old girl the other week who couldn't crawl or move around at all. Happy as Larry, she was. Conversely, I knew a little girl (and she was tiny) who was walking like a builder at 7 months.

Ds was crawling at 8 months, standing unaided at 9 months, and walking at 11 months.

They're all different, baby. Don't worry. You're talking a matter of weeks before everything pans out

Sazisi · 29/10/2007 23:32

DD1, bumshuffler
DD2, did crawl but didn't start until just under a year old
DD3, started crawling a few weeks back; she's nearly 9 months

nappyaddict · 29/10/2007 23:40

ds learnt to cruise then crawl.

anightmareonMegletstreet · 30/10/2007 19:22

If shes starting to stand up I'd say she'll go straight to walking.

I never crawled or pulled myself up when I was a baby, my poor mum nearly had a heart attack when she walked into the room and found me cruising at 10 months. Its apparently quite common to miss crawling.

My DS crawled at 9 months and is cruising at 11.

twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2007 19:26

my dd crawled for approximately 2 minutes at eleven months, she then got up and walked

funnypeculiar · 30/10/2007 19:28

ds - 14mths, walked at 18 mths
dd - 8ish mths, walked at 18mths

Seca · 01/11/2007 00:15

My dd didn't crawl until a week before her first birthday but when she did crawl she was extremely well co-ordinated. She started walking at 17 months.

wb · 01/11/2007 11:30

My ds crawled at 16mo - 4 months after he learnt to walk! He never bum shuffled or rolled (as a means of locomotion) either, just enjoy it whilst it lasts.
