Looking for advice as I've got terrible mum guilt that I'm not doing enough to develop / entertain my 8 week old with there being no other interaction than me every day and his dad for a couple hours in the evening, at the minute he wakes about 7 i feed and I engage with him ( pull faces/ noises/ generally talk to him) until he sleeps then after next feed we do tummy time and the play mat, then in the afternoon we go for a walk or if weather bad a drive ( he sleeps through all this so wouldn't have a clue) evening he's usually awake until bath at half 8 ish feed and bed but what else should I be doing? He is generally a very grumpy boy has reflux & possible allergy ( ongoing doctors appointment at the moment), terrible constipation from the gaviscone and cries after every feed .. in fact cries most of the day Sad I just don't really have a clue what I should be doing all day !!!

I think given the possible allergies and the crying, plus the fact that he's so young, you are doing perfectly.

My first was a crier abs it turned out to be Tongue tie although I was convinced it would be CMPA as that's what I have.

Can your GP give any other reflux meds apart from the gaviscon? They usually try that one first and move on ito others if it's not working.

Thank you! I really have no idea what I should/ shouldn't be doing!

You are right I think I need to keep persevering with the doctor. He had tongue tie at birth and had it sorted so I can only think either that's not worked or it is the reflux/ milk issue it's just so hard to tell now with the added constipation breaks my heart seeing him so sad and grumpy it's definitely not how I imagined i would be spending my maternity leave :(!

I have a 9 week old and honestly your routine sounds spot on. You’re interactive, getting fresh air and having some tummy time. You’re doing wonderfully. I’m sorry to hear about the feeding issues but just wanted to reassure you on the rest.

Our routine is a bit all over the place - in fact it doesn’t really exist. Just sleeps and breastfeeds when he wants and interact as much as he wants when he’s awake (similar stuff to you). The timings seem to vary every day (some sleepy days, some days much more awake) so we just go with what’s working at that moment. I have a very active three year old though so sort of have to fit the day around him.

:)
