It's really difficult to tell what it is at this age I'm sorry as CMPA, tongue tie and reflux can have very similar symptoms.

Do any of LO's symptoms sound like this?

This article on Kellymom might help too Thanks

My son suffered with silent reflux. It is incredibly exhausting and my heart goes out to you. We had a few months where we couldn’t even lay him flat. He was on gaviscon initially but when that didn’t work, he was put on ranitidine and then finally omeprazole by his consultant. He was weaned off everything before his first birthday. However, I did have to be pushy and insist on further help. The gaviscon also caused constipation issues bless him. Something else I noticed with his reflux was quite strange smelling breath at times.
Things did start to improve once we weaned him too. Good luck. Reflux is so tough. Xx

Had the same at 3 months. Hell. Absolute hell. He his CMPA which was tricky anyway. Getting it sorted was the hardest part. We started Gaviscon, then eventually I ended up at a&e and we got omeprazole and he was like a different baby. 4 month mark onwards it wasn’t a bother, he’s now 8 months and not a problem in the world with it. Weaning helped too. I would never have believed that when he was 3 months. Lots of love and if things don’t work, demand more options. You will get there. X

@Amanduh

Thanks tried infant gaviscon. Reacted bay
Do you think I should do early weaning?
Did you try weaning at 4 months or under?
Thanks

Hi guys. My son had reflux and colic, was on gaviscon, which stopped working for him. I put books under his cot to leviate it slightly. That helped alot. When changing him I would put an adult reflux cushion(looks like the shape of a massive cheese slice) under the mat, I used to change him on the floor. I remember the dr telling me smaller amounts of milk more frequently. I remember burping him until it was next feed. Was hard but I can happily say he is now 1 years and colic and reflux thing of the past. It feels forever at the time but suddenly he will grow out of it and all will be fine.Xx

We weaned at 4 months under the guidance of the paeds and it helped massively. There are some people who say it didn’t help though! The meds worked well too.

My DD is almost 9 months old and still suffers with reflux sadly. It’s got better but we still have the odd bad day and she is still on infant gaviscon.

I started weaning at 5 months on the advice of a paediatrician and sadly it didn’t help. It got slightly better when I moved onto BLW and lumpier foods at 6.5 months but the 4-6 month purées are so thin, it actually made her reflux worse to start with.

Try Cranial Osteopathy. The Osteopath worked wonders. So gentle.

My son had silent reflux.

I still go cold and panicky when I think back to those awful months.

It does get better. You honestly wouldn’t know now!

We found that Carabol worked a treat - gaviscon did bugger all - you can get it prescribed or buy it, but you should discuss with your GP ofc.

We also raised the head end of his mattress and I held him for all his naps (I couldn’t at night due to sheer exhaustion!)

I also weaned around 5 months - I didn’t speak to GP etc about this as I knew what they would say, but you may wish to.

Baby is now 11 months and perfectly fine - although he has always hated formula! He has maybe 8oz a day if that, I’m not going to force it!

Go easy on yourself and enlist as much help as you can - you are an amazing mummy and your little one is very lucky to have someone who clearly cares so deeply about their well-being

I was told by HV yesterday after getting her weighed she is fine and a really good weight and now shes 14 weeks her stomach should be tolerating the milk much better and reflux at this time slowly goes away??? But I can see from the responses on here thats not true!! Im so confused.
And why is she still taking little and often? I.e 3oz-4oz per feed

Thank you @Eggcellent29
Really feel for you. Im still holding her for naps although sometimes she will fall asleep ok mostly in her bouncer.
I really do want to wean early.
Did you think the silent reflux got better straight after you weaned? Im very tempted

@Peppery123

I personally would not wean as early as 14 weeks, so I wouldn’t want to advise you to.

His aversion to the bottle has never gone away - so it’s hard to say if his reflux ever got better because he’s never happily taken the bottle, but this could be due to reflux OR just the memory of “I know that thing, it makes my tummy hurt, I don’t want it!!

Weaning did not improve his reflux. It just meant that he was filling up on food rather than formula so he didn’t have to deal with the reflux as much. But he was significantly older than your baby, so again, I wouldn’t recommend this to you at this time.

Have you spoken to your GP about trying something other than Gaviscon?
