Balance & clumsiness- problems when walking

Hi guys, my son is 16 months old and he has started walking by him self almost 3 month's ago but he is still struggling to find his balance. Maybe I should mention he wear glasses as he is farsighted and squint. He don't have problem standing on one place, he even dance like a litlle penguin but when he walks he is starting to pick up speed or he walks on his toes... therefore he loses the balance. The other problem that I have is that he is not careful at all, if he start to fall it's not on his butt or on his hands but he'll fall on the side and hit his head.
I blame myself as it's my first baby and I am so scared and crying my eyes out that he will hit his head or his face and break the glasses that I catch him almost every time he start to lose his coordination. Everyone's telling me to let him hit himself and that's how he will learn but I'm really struggling.
I am looking for some advice or words of encouragement. Thanks a lot 🤗

My daughter is the same, she’s falling constantly and sometimes they’re really worrying falls but she gets up and carries on just fine while I’m freaking out that she’s concussed or something😅. She also goes on tiptoes at times and I’ve been told by mine and my partners parents that it can be normal but just to keep an eye, hopefully it’ll improve and falls will get less and less frequent. But I completely get where you’re coming from as a first time mum, it’s scary and I’m always thinking the worst is going to happen.
I have no doubt your boy will be just fine and his walking will improve in his own time, every child is different and develops at different rates so try not to stress too much, easier said than done 😅

@jessielou45 Thank you! I also think the most terrible thing is about to happen...I suppose every new mum is like this 😁. I know every child development is different but of course I worry a bit.
