OCD??

This has been occurring since he started school in September...every morning before we head out to school ( or anywhere)he has to close all doors in the flat, turn off the light in the hallway, and I'm not allowed to put my shoes on or jacket before him. Otherwise he starts to cry like mad and tells me to remove my shoes and jacket. He's never been interested in routines before so this has been a new thing.

Also as soon as we close the door to head out I keep telling him WE DO NOT TOUCH THE NEIGHBOURS DOOR HANDLES and he does it ANYWAY and lectures ME that we dont touch germy doorhandles and he needs to demonstrate that fact by touching them . Every bloody time! It's so frustrating, I feel for my negbours door handles always being pulled down !

And when we go outside he HAS to put his knees on the ground like bowing down so his trousers get wet or dirty, he did that several times when he was walking hand in hand with me and my ex . Knees on the ground, knees on the ground and telling us we dont do that ....but does it.

And when I pick him up at school he has to run to the other side of the building to the nursery, or if theres toys around he just shucks them all over the place and doesnt care if others are walking by, and if toys hit them. If I get the chance to grab him quickly he has a proper screaming fit so everyone staring at us of course ...

He goes to a special school and he says he copies the other kids there, and I have seen that they throw and scream alot too ( they cant help it I know) ....after him starting at the school his behaviour has just turned worse all that good behaviour he used to have is gone out the window, and he has started with this OCD behaviour and tantrums ( his tantrums last maximum 10 min) out of nowhere...

What do I do? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel? I assume it's not normal and he has always been more quirky than his peers and never "fitted in" and the NT kids calls him weird Sad

Hi op, that sounds difficult to cope with. You don’t say how old he is, but I had OCD which started when I was a child. I just had lots and lots of rituals - how I had to get dressed, brush my teeth, walk along a street etc. I remember I had the thought that if I don’t do X ritual in the right way something bad will happen. The thing that helped me was a book I found that explained that all about OCD and also explained how to try to fight it. Could you try and see if there is an age appropriate book about OCD or anxiety or worry and read it with him? Knowing what it was and explaining my thought process really helped me.
