Should I worry?

My little boy is 2 in a few weeks, and I’m really starting to worry whether he is developing normally. He crawled spot on 6 months and walked just after his first birthday, I would say physically he is developing perfectly, I have no concerns in this area.
However, I do worry about some of his behaviours. He is terrible with food, we tried baby led weaning and he wouldn’t have any of it, he pretty much won’t eat anything, at home or nursery other than crackers, banana bread and a few select meals. His speech isn’t great, he says very few words, which causes a great deal of frustration. He often dosent respond to his name, I can literally be shouting it at the top of my lungs and he won’t turn around, but if I open a packet of biscuits he’s there in a shot so we know his hearing is ok. He has recently started walking on his tip toes, not always but sometimes, and he does not point or follow when others point.

He’s dead sociable, and loves cuddles when he’s in the mood.

Do you think I should be raising it with someone?

There are a few things you can do before you speak to anyone.

Once he's reached 2 try the Speech Progress Checker from ICan. This will tell you if he needs any additional support and should tell you how to get it. If he does need to be referred to SALT it's worth getting him a hearing test too as the Speech Therapist will want low hearing ruling out. You can self-refer him for a hearing test in most areas.

The MChat test is useful and you can do that now, you don't have to wait until he's two. That should tell you his risk for ASD.

HTH.

I agree with the previous poster, and deepening on the results of the MCHAT I would also mention it to your HV - some the points you raised are concerning at 2YRs old.

Thank you both, I have done the test and it came out with a medium risk result, I will speak to nursery today when I drop him off and call the health visitor next week

It might be worth posting in the SN Section to see what the process is for diagnosis and what to expect Thanks

Has his hearing been checked recently? The food thing could just be a separate issue? Cuddles is good

Hi, I’ve spoken to nursery today and they have said they noticed he doesn’t respond to his name but the don’t really have any concerns. They have said otherwise he os where they would expect him to be in terms of development.
I will still speak to his health visitor but I feel a bit better now!

Hearing is all fine, he can definitely hear when he wants too! X
