My 14 month old DD2 has always been a bit clingy to me - unlike DD1 aged 3.4 who has always been happy be held by/play with anyone - but recently the behaviour has got much worse. She will not go to anyone else, my mum and MIL included, unless she is in a VERY good mood. Does a lot of screeching (sp?) and body stiffening if anything displeases her, and the only thing that really makes her happy when being like this is if I cuddle her. Obviously this is very lovely but not always practical! She has been a bit ill recently (teething, cold, nappy rash, that kind of thing) and the behaviour has got a bit worse because of it - which is to be expected I suppose. My mum thinks that I should nip it in the bud before it becomes a major behaviour trait when she is a toddler. Apparently my brother was similar to this and became a v troublesome toddler! I finished BF her when she was around 12 months though this was largely down to self weaning so I don't think that this is happening because i stopped BF. Also, she has been behaving this way since about 6 months so it has been going on for a while! DD1 is very easy going and they do play together nicely but I feel that as she has got older and is now no longer BF, it is unfair on DD1 to always be put to bed, fed etc by DH just because DD2 will only have me! DD1 is always good about it, and we do have time for just the 2 of us when DD2 is napping, but I don't want her to feel that she is always 2nd on the list after DD2 had her own way!
Other than that DD2 is a lovely baby and I feel guilty for criticising her behaviour, but I just don't want her to become more difficult as she gets older.
BTW, I have left her overnight once with my in laws and apparently she was fine.
I realise that she is still quite little, but does anyone have any tips on how to solve this kind of behaviour? Have told DP that I am just going to take DD1 out alone when he is around and leave DD2 with him so she gets used to it not always being her and me. DD1 was never like this, but I suppose she never had any competition for my attention!
Sorry this is really long winded.
