Please help - DS (9) suddenly won't swallow foods

In the last few weeks, my 9 year old son has begun to find swallowing certain foods difficult. He has always had a brilliant appetite and would eat almost anything but now he is over-chewing certain foods (meat, apples - particularly the skin) and picking bits of it out of his mouth. But he'll happily eat sweets/biscuits when allowed? Also in the last few months he's developed a bit of an obsession over his peanut allergy and also in the last month to 6 weeks, he seems to have developed a tic (face stretching/grimacing).
I am going to ring the gp on Tuesday but I'm fully prepared to be told it's a phase. But does anyone have any advice or reassurance they can give me as I'm becoming more and more worried about it all.

Somekind of counselling may help, could be related to phobia of his Allergy. AS you say he will swallow biscuits and sweets so you know he can. Perhaps go through food with him what does he think will be easier to eat. Get him involved in prepping/cooking the food perhaps that will help?

Thank you for your reply. I do feel like it's possibly psychological and there seems to be no physical reason for it. Recently, he's started leaving the crusts of his sandwiches (has always eaten them before no issues) and he struggled with spaghetti meatballs the other evening (previously always been in his top 3 favourite meals). But I just don't understand why not those things but is fine with others.

I can see you being refered to a dietician.
