What size teat is your dc on? When my ds started doing this I took it that the teat was too small and moved up one.

hth

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:35

yeah you might need to change the flow of the teat

rosmonster · 20/10/2007 13:51

oohhh, it's so nice when people agree with you

bumbly · 20/10/2007 15:08

he is on avent 2 but i tried a three few dyas ago and he almost drowned

guess will try again!

thanx for advice - just at wits end - my lo seems to have one problem after another every bloody day

you could try a variflow teat, that will adapt with the way he sucks

it is not a problem, they all do this when the milk is not flowing fast enough for their liking

also, make sure that there is no air in the teat too

bumbly · 20/10/2007 15:12

variflow - avent do them?

yeah this coming in and out of teat is most prominent now since three days...and driving me mad....but the 3 almost made him drown - he was gagging so much...

Yes the variflow have a slit rather than holes. Had to use for dd's thickened feeds.

bumbly · 20/10/2007 17:50

just tried a three and real nightmare - lo almost choked

variflow opens according to his suck. Could he be teething ?

rosmonster · 21/10/2007 14:35

bumbly, sorry I couldn't help with this one

Definitely try the variflow, maybe as well he's just figured out he can play with it iyswim

bumbly · 21/10/2007 19:52

avent variflow apparently for thickewr fluids - ios that the one to try??

confused

need to buy tomorrow so any help appreicated!

LIZS · 21/10/2007 19:56

yes , you turn bottle to position I , II or III uppermost to regulate the flow and the slit only open as he sucks.

bumbly · 21/10/2007 19:58

but we are not on thick liquids - just bog stabdard cow and gate - is it still fine to use these?

OP posts:
LIZS · 21/10/2007 20:02

Doesn't really matter tbh, they still work with normal milk. It is simply that you can't get thickened milk through nromal holes in which case these would be recommended. These aren't as freeflowing so less likely to choke when he isn't actually sucking and swallowing.

bumbly · 21/10/2007 20:41

ok he uses a 2 now and chokes on a 3

what variflow number should he try?

OP posts:
LIZS · 22/10/2007 08:10

experiment, he just might find it more to his liking as it doesn't simply pour down his trhoat. tbh with dd I didn't even realise there were different numbers to begin with , just used it as it suited her !
