Extreme Stranger Anxiety

Hi everyone,

This is my first baby so I don’t know what’s normal or not so some advice would help.

My 7 month old cannot go to parties or others houses she doesn’t know. She gets hysterical to the point were I can’t calm her at all and I will have to leave. She has been doing this since she was 5 months.

I know babies make strange but her reaction seems excessive. Like I cannot calm her at all. Just wondering if this is normal? Anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Mine did this for a while.
First baby didn't really like people if they held him but this baby was a whole new level of hysterical. Hyperventilating, the works.

She's not doing it anymore.

Treat them a bit like a cat. By that I mean, have them initiate any contact, hace guests ignore them and be a safe distance away for them to assess on their own. I find if people went over and were in her space, she just lost it.
Now if people are just not bothered or wait for her to come over, they get hugs and a book handed to them to read.

It'll pass.
🥰

@PaigeTWoodd was wondering if the situation improved with you LO? My baby girl is 8 months and also gets inconsolable around new people.

Hi! She turned one today and had loads of people around her and she was fine! It was definitely just a phase. We mams worry about everything!

Oh glad to hear! We went to a party yesterday too and my girl behaved like a champ - so there's definitely hope 😄
