9 week old sleep....general advice

Hello. I’m new to this site and due to lockdowns etc I am feeling a bit isolated. Baby classes have stopped and I don’t know that many new mums to discuss matter with.

Just now my 9 week old is being put down at night around 8.30pm. We start bed time routine around 7.30pm (cuddles, bath, pyjamas, bottle and then white noise and gentle rocking until asleep). I’ve read so much about putting babies down drowsy but awake. I have no idea if I should be starting this now. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Also, nap times have went from long stretches to cat naps (around 45 mins or so). Is this normal and should I just go with the flow for now?

Sorry but I’m a bundle of anxiety!!

Hello and welcome to the site.

I suppose you could try putting them down drowsy but please remember that you've only really read one person's theory on what a baby should be doing and if it doesn't work, please don't beat yourself up about it.

If naps have got shorter, where is baby napping now? Will they go back off if you gently lay a hand on their tummy or shush and pat?

Thanks for replying.
I use Moses basket at night and during the day naps are mostly in the pram.

It really is so confusing knowing whether you’re doing right or wrong.

I really wouldn't stress about it to much. We never forced a routine as lots of them have been devised by "baby gurus" who haven't had a child and usually aren't evidence based.

At not much older than yours is now, we sort of fell into a routine which was great as it suited both me and baby and nothing was forced Smile

I raised the cart napping issue with HV and she said to put baby down at set times even if they just lie in the cot to teach them that’s nap time. That to me is madness, you surely can’t tell a baby when to sleep?!?

My HV used to come out with bonkers helpful advice like that, I used to say "oh that's really interesting, can you point me in the direction of the research so that I can read more about it". She never did once as there was no research to back up her theories Smile
