2.3 yr old won't say his own name (even though he can talk)

Ds is 2.3 and just won't say his name and prefers to call himself Nana (his word for nappy?!) He thinks this is funny.

What can I do to get him to say it? He does talk but not brilliantly for his age.

DD didn't say her name for ages.

don't worry about it - the more you make it an issue, the more it will be!

2 of my children went through a phase of seeming embarrassed by their names. It was at about the age of 2. As they both have unusual names, I was a little horror-struck that they had cottoned on to the fact that I had named them unusual names at such a young age.

Then they grew out of it and have never made any comment about the unusualness of their names. I think it is just a phase they go through.

My DS did this for ages, you couldn't get him to say it whatever you tried -he says it now (3.4)

DD does this, she will only say Me if you ask her her name

Is his real name Theopopodopolis? If so, who can blame him?

dd (2 next week) spent the whole of today approaching all and sundry and announcing "my name is XXX".

she gets ever so huffy if she doesn't get a response!

she's also quite keen on pointing and announcing "MAN" or "LADY" or "I'M A GIRL"!!

I know it sounds silly to post about it but it just seemed strange and it's reassuring to know he isn't the only one up to this little antic.

He thinks it is so funny bless him. Tonight he was in the bathroom and was pointing to the toothburshes going 'mummy's, daddy's, nannan's'! Occasionally if we ask him what his name is he says daddy too. He isn't confused - he knows exactly what's what.

I suppose I should be glad he has a sense of humour!

Dumbledores I have an unusual name and tbh wasn't happy about it as a child but I love it now and wouldn't swap for a regular name at all.

my ds is the same age and doesnt say his name but says other peoples his gg is called olive and always gives him chocolate buttons and he calls her olvesweestsees!

He says other people's names too - that's what I find strange about it as you'd think you'd suss how to say your own name first!
And I suppose it was bothering me that loads of his little mates come out with his name but he doesn't seem to be able to say it himself. Ah well. It might be our fault as we have several nicknames for him and maybe we've confused the poor chap!

dd is the same a bit younger but will say everyone lese's name and have a go at most words but is not at all interested in saying her own name and wonlt even try

DS1 2.3 has only just started saying his name - although he refers to himself as "pam" as he cant say "sam"! Up until recently he referred to himself has "me" or "mine".

Does anyone's ds/dd actually call themself something totally different to their name on purpose though? When might he stop doing this or is he going to be still calling himself Nannan at hte age of 14?!
