Looking for some advice, since the age of 2 weeks (now 8 weeks) my little boy has suffered with what I thought was wind, particularly in the evenings and night. Iv tried everything I can think of to help him, infacol, detinox, changed his milk to comfort then hipp organic, changed his bottles to dr browns, baby massage etc now I’m starting to think is this wind or silent reflux?

Symptoms are: straining to pass wind (usually through his bottom) shortly after a feed and worse at night when as been laid on his back. Constantly sounds mucousy particularly after feeds and again worse at night. Sour smelling breath on times, doesn’t like being on his back when uncomfortable but comfortable on his stomach or side. Gulping when feeding and

Wind, colic, milk allergy and tongue tie can all be a bit hard to diagnose as they can have similar symptoms.

Have a read of this on tongue tie and see if any of the symptoms are similar to what you are experiencing Smile

Was it a natural or c section delivery? I ask because c section babies are more mucousy.
Our little one suffers from colic, infacol helped to some degree but also trying cool boiled water. Also try 2 squirts of the infacol that made a difference for us.
She suffers from bottom wind as well and that can sometimes cause her discomfort when trying to pass it.

My baby had silent reflux...does your baby have hiccups? It’s one of the signs. I found several things helped. Keeping her upright for 30 minutes after a feed (eg on your shoulder). Rubbing her back and very softly tapping her back while she’s upright, rather than the usual winding pats. I never lay her flat, I bought desk raisers for under the change table, and under her cot. I placed a towel under the top half of the mattress in her stroller’s bassinet, so her top half was still raised. I also has to really watch what I ate (I was breastfeeding), eg if I ate any kind of bean (broad beans, kidney beans) it would make her reflux worse, or spicy foods...they say avoid dairy but I don’t eat dairy in any case. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, he was a c section baby so perhaps that explains the mucous!
I have been keeping upright after feeding which seems to be helping, it’s just a pain by night! Also been using detinox colic drops the last few days which seems to be helping him get his wind up (fingers crossed)
