18 month old just never stops.

I have an 18 month old little boy and he just never stops. He is..wild and it's been commented on frequently.

A bit of context- he walked around 11 months, then quickly progressed to running and has done ever since. He runs, all day, from the minute he wakes up to when he goes to bed. He hates any kind of structured play where he needs to sit. He climbs and is generally on the go constantly. He sleeps well - 11-12 hrs at night and has a 1.5-2hr nap in the afternoon.

He does find it hard to communicate- doesn't point and still have no words which we have been referred to Speech and Language for, although he does seem to have an ok understanding (e.g can understand me asking him to come get his shoes on/put his blocks away etc). He has just recently found an interest in puzzles so he will spend small periods of 5 minutes or so with them but otherwise he runs.

Pre-Covid we used to go to all sorts of baby groups which he enjoyed but didn't pay a huge amount of attention in- but i expected as much from him at that age. Now these groups are opening back up again where i am, i'm trying to take him back and get him around other kids but he has no interest. While the others are joining in, he is running around paying no interest. We don't enjoy the time together as i feel i'm just running behind him all time, stopping him from injuring himself or others!

I've had concerns re autism but HV has reassured me she isn't concerned at this point. We do try and get outside as much as possible and he is such a loving, affectionate little boy but I've just yet to meet anyone else with a child as constant as him and i'm so exhausted.

I have a 23 month old who sounds very similar.

He is so strong willed and always has do be doing something. He is the polar opposite of my friends son the same age, who will sit and play with one toy, speaks well already, is quite calm and loving in nature. My son says some words and understands most things too. I spoke to my hv and she said some kids are problem solvers, they tend to walk sooner, always like to be busy, quite hyper always on the go. 5en others are observers, tend to speak well early, calm in nature, enjoy watching the world go by. My hv wasn’t worried about speech or behaviour , she said she has 4 sons and 3 were mega hyper and always on the go and one was calm and played well and all 4 grew up to be totally fine.
