8 year old thinks he's fat

He's absolutely not.
He's a big build.
How best to talk to him about this?

How about calculate his bmi on the NHS website with him to prove to him that it falls in the normal range?

I am an ethics teacher and the standard questions are:
"What makes you say so"
followed by
" how do you feel about that"

Big build, big boned, big lad .... these are expressions often used by defensive parents. Before adolescence and production of testosterone, it is hard to build significant muscle . Of course, some kids are muscular, but they are also athletes training many hours per week.
