8 day old sleeping too much

My 8 day old has been sleeping continuously today to the point where she's not feeding properly. I wake her up to put her on the breast but she'll last 5 mins and go back to sleep. She has had some mixed nappies this morning and a wet one about 5 hours ago but nothing since

Is it normal for newborns to have more sleepy days than others?

My newborn was like that . He rarely woke to be fed and I had to set an alarm for every 3 hours to nurse . The only thing he did was sleep and nurse at first .

It lasted a few weeks but he was born at 37 weeks and even though that’s full term ( barely ) I was told by my midwife he might be sleepy for longer .

Yes I remember by new born slept most if not all the time till about 3 weeks old. I also set an alarm to wake and feed. She was a quick feeder too and would be full in 5 mins, that's often a good sign the latch is good and she can get the tiny amounts she needs quickly. Keep monitoring but sounds fairly normal for 8 days old.

Read up on the fourth trimester if you haven't already.

Speak to your GP if you’re worried. A sleepy baby could well be just that but it could also be a sign that they’re unwell with something like sepsis or dehydration and nobody on here would possibly be able to tell you that. Just ask your GP about them
