what exactly is dream feeds. is that only just waking them enough to feed?

yep
get them out of bed gently, put them to the boob and let them do it or not, I do this with ds2 and it works perfectly

I used to pick mne up and feed them without them waking at all. They seemed to just take the milk in their sleep but I know it doesn't work for everyone.
