GP opinion re. Speech

My son is late talking and he's 2.5. He has no signs of autism etc as we have done the check for that with HV and he scored very low so not a concern at all. She seems to think he will catch up

The GP seems to think similar and said not to worry

But when I told the nursery key worker all this to update her, she asked which health visitor it was, almost as if she didn't believe my health visitors opinion even tho we went through the questionnaire together and the nursery worker also said it's good to get a GP opinion but he's not a paediatrician but in my eyes he's still a doctor so surely his opinion counts plus the HV wasn't worried so it just seems like the nursery worker is trying to unnecessarily worry me

He is under SALT Altho it's early days yet

Well is he talking at all?

HP2020 · 08/10/2020 20:29

He's talking gibberish and says a few words here and there

Getting an opinion from speech therapist is better. how is his understanding of language? Has the nursery key worker mentioned anyother concerns other than speech.

Bpeep · 09/10/2020 15:09

Is he playing with toys and with other kids?

HP2020 · 09/10/2020 20:07

No other concerns no. He plays alongside other kids so not with them as such but next to them. But this is normal for children to often only develop friendships once they are a bit older

Oh and his understanding is very good

He plays with trains and books at home but he's very much a little explorer who loves inspecting everything and he loves being outside.

Sounds like my son who is just 2... He has lots of single words but just talks gibberish most of the time. I'm not concerned but if he doesn't improve within the next few months I'll see about getting a referral to a speech therapist. By 2.5 if he isn't speaking two or three word sentences certainly. My son's understanding is good too.
