Dummies

Hi

My baby had a dummy since around a month old as he found it really comforting, he is now 11 months and seems to be wanting it more and more (not just for naps as before) so i’ve decided to remove them completely. He’d have it all day if he could!

I’ve been putting him down to nap, giving him a kiss and saying nap time and leaving the room. I then say to myself if he isn’t asleep within 10 mins i’ll go back in. He has been crying and then falling asleep within 10 mins. I started yesterday but today as soon as we even go into his room he starts crying as if he knows what’s coming and it’s making me wonder if i’m doing it right?

Has anyone else been through the dreaded dummy removal and how did you do it?

you could always just keep it for bedtime only, as soon as he's awake then remove it and hide it
i had two dummy suckers and a finger sucker the finger sucking went on longer because you cant throw it out Grin

We kept them for naps, bedtimes and car journeys. Sometimes if unwell for comfort. DD sometimes asked for it but was quite firm. Made all of the above easy. She's a good sleeper and got rid of them at age 2.5 to give to the Easter bunny babies in exchange for a very exciting present. From a former dummy snob!

Ahh thank you! He’s been fab the last 2 days! Rolls straight over and goes to sleep, no crying, no protesting. He has started nursery so i think it’s tiring him out! We also gave him a bunny to sleep with. Nursery are giving it to him for his naps as they said it’s a big change for him, it would be good for him to have some comfort and it doesn’t appear to have affected his naps/bedtime at home so fingers crossed he stays like this!

He is yet to get a tooth though so those will be interesting times! Think i’ll keep them in the cupboard just in case Grin
