Illness and nursery

Hey there,

So my son (who is 3years old) has just gone back to nursery... Today was his 3rd day and he's only there for 3 hours... My concern is he is already getting a cold (runny nose and occasional coughing).

Pre lock down when he was attending nursery he was getting ill with runny nose's and mucus coughing that would make him vom every other week at max. And the time he's been away since March he has been completely healthy.
But now that he's back (his class has only like 3 children their and the weather has been great) he's ill again and so soon. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I arise this concern with the nursery? He take vitamins daily but its really draining seeing him ill so often, and especially when he's sick he has to take off 48hours after the last vom.

Thank you in advance for your responses,
Nay x

In the nicest way possible, what are you expecting the nursery to do about it?

That’s just nursery - it’s the same for all children, it’s rubbish and will be more so with self-isolating rules but it’s a bit of an inevitability given children’s natural lack of hygiene ie touching things they shouldn’t, putting things in mouths etc, and developing immune systems x

@NewMum0305 Thanks for the reply.

My question is "is this something I should be worried about?".
If my son is getting ill constantly is this normal. As I said before before lockdown and isolation, so from last year September until march my son was getting ill every week and his cold would last about 5 days. no mother wants to see their child constantly unwell. Even yesterday he hardly slept the night through...
I would like to discuss this with the nursery because maybe they are not disinfecting their toys as often as they should. When I worked at a childminders we was sterilizing certain toys every evening.
Today my sons grandad collected him and dropped him off today and one of the staff asked if he has allergies because he has a runny nose? I get their immune system is growing but still it concerns me to see him ill so often.

If there was ever a time that your child’s nursery is definitely cleaning toys, it’s now. Have you spoken to your GP?

Maybe worth considering with your GP in case it’s an allergy to something at nursery. If it’s just random illnesses then I would think it’s normal. My daughter went to nursery full time from 1. She was horribly ill for the first 10 months - actually off nursery about half the time (colds, tummy bugs, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis....). She got over it after the first year and then was just ill a ‘normal’ amount. She was also absolutely fine throughout lockdown and then got a cold within 3 days of starting pre-school.
