My DD (3 yo) has always eaten very well, we never cooked anything specially for her, she eats what we eat...we were always so proud of how well she ate (not huge amounts, but she would try anything).
A couple of months ago she started saying she didn’t like eggs, she wouldn’t have it at all, when she used to love it before...Anyway, it was not a big deal for us, as she was still eating it as an omelette for example (but not boiled or fried). We could live with that.
A couple of weeks ago she started spitting out the food she was chewing, not everything, more like meat if it was not very tender for example. But the last couple of days are being a nightmare, she is spitting out pretty much everything (unless it is something that she really likes).
I am not sure what to do or how to react even...my partner gets quite cross with her and I think that doesn’t particularly help. Yesterday we told her that she needs to eat to grow up, and she was saying “I want to grow up” and was actually trying hard to eat but it was like she couldn’t help not spitting the food out. She was gagging trying to do it, this is with foods she has had many times and she liked before! I am so confused. I would think she has a problem swallowing, only that I know that’s not the case, as she can swallow perfectly fine when she has her favorite foods!
I am not sure what is the best approach. We cannot force her to eat as it is cruel, she gags...but then I don’t want to cook something specially for her, it sets a very bad precedent if she thinks I am going to cook for her whatever she likes, but then I don’t want her to go to bed hungry...
Any toughts?
