dd won't wear trousers!

My dd who was 5 in August has suddenly started to refuse to wear trousers of any kind. This includes pyjamas, school trousers, jeans anything that is a trouser. Now that the weather is getting cold I am getting a bit fed up TBH as I feel she would be warmer in trousers. She likes dressing up and being pretty and says that girls wear skirts and trousers and that boys wear trousers and skirts.
Everytime I try and give her trousers she pushes them away and says no they are for boys.
Has anyone else experienced this?
She has so many pairs of trousers and it seems a shame that she won't wear them!

tell her its cool and trendy to wear trousers AND a skirt

Ixel · 16/10/2004 12:06

I totally agree with her. I asm now a post-perg slob in jeans due to excess weight, but for most of my life I've detested trousers! Put hers up the loft incase she changes her mind, and buy lots of thick tights or over the knee socks. Get them from a cheap shop incase this is just a phase!!

Whhoops. Supposed to say post-preg.

LOL!!! Well if she doesnt get over it Im in need of trousers for my dd!!!!
I think I had this for a brief time with my dd when she was 4ish and I just manhandled her into some and said Lets go...and Id won IYKWIM.
Good luck..BTW I am still combing and I thought we were free but I found a giant monster nit last night and think she must have caught it from school yesterday. Are you free yet?

dd1 who is 4 is like this. i insist she wears trousers to nursery, and can wear skirts with tights at weekends. i just feel trousers are more suitable for the rough and tumble of nursery than skirts.

I'll be interested in the answers to this, as my 3y 5m daughter (whose motto has always been "I don't do trousers" and who would rather play with a toy crane than a doll) has this week decided that girls wear skirts and the only colour in the universe is pink. It's annoying as we spent quite a lot of money a couple of weeks ago on winter trousers for her, but I have bought her a few cheap skirts and some wooly tights, and she thinks she's the bees knees. Her nursery school teacher thinks it's a peer thing - they get to school and see other girls in skirts and playing with dolls, and want to be like their friends.

My approach at the moment is not to make a fuss, they always do the opposite of what we want them to! Perhaps if we ignore it and let them wear what they want to for now, they will eventually decide for themselves that trousers are more comfortable in the cold weather.

WWB - we have the same with pink and lilac being her favourite colours!
I must do a wash dedicated to pink once a week!

I did that when I was about 4yo, Blossomhill. then when I was about 5yo I refused to wear skirts or dresses... for the next 6 years!

I survived, I imagine your DD will, too.

My friends dd is exactly the same (she's only 3.5) - she HATES trousers and will only wear dresses (not even keen on skirts!!). AND, the dress has to 'go out' when she spins round in it !

blossomhill · 16/10/2004 17:50

Skate
I have just come back from Woolworths and I bought her a pair of pink tartan welly boots. They are gorgeous and she is wearing them indoors. With pink tights and a denim skirt of course

DD much prefers dresses and skirts to trousers, and if given a choose that's what she always goes for. I usually just team them with thick tights and her pink Timberland boots - the student look, DH says. But it looks sweet.

But she will wear some trousers - but they have to be girly, and preferably pink or purple. So all her trousers are those colours, or jeans with flowers and sparkles, etc.

Breakthrough..... Dd has gone to my mum's house in jeans! All of her skirts are in the wash (surprise, surprise!. The jeans did have love hearts on though!
