So how old were your DC when they could bath/shower themselves?

Not necessarily get all dry and whatever afterwards but just get in, wash all over and rinse off.I asked DS and DD today when they wanted to and they said 16 and 18!

My 5 year old DD will get in the bath, wash herself and hair by herself. She will stay in there by herself quite happily but I don't like to unless I am trying to get something done - even then I always keep checking on her. She always calls me when she is ready to get out though.

5 and 4. DS decided he'd like to have a shower so I told him he had to start washing himself again (he did for a while and then I started doing it again for some reason) so he washed himself then stood under the shower after DD got out. Now he wants to shower every day, but DD still needs help, esp as she can't get water in her ears cos it makes her get ear infections. Don't you find the more they do for themselves, the more you want them to do?

DD is 4.5 and can wash herself and her hair in the shower.

ds1 is 4.5 and can shower himself if I set it up.

My 6 and 7 year old manage as does 4 year old - just about! However, I am a little anal about cleanliness so generally wash them myself from head to toe every other day.

DS is 4.6 and is capable of washing/rinsing himself properly in the bath but prefers me to do it.

I can't imagine him being able to wash himself in the shower though. He hates water going in his eyes so when we use a shower he concentrates on keeping his face out of it!

We don't have a bath, so we ahve showered our DD since she was 4 months old with us. At about 14months old, when she was reliable at standing up by herself, she started showering on her own, with me sitting next to the shower. She loved it!

But, of course, she isn't actually on her own .

Ds1 nearly 8,...can now wash himself properly without me watching and infact he doesn't like me watching any more. Ds2 6 washes himself but quite frequently forgets the important bits so I sit there reminding him!

Dd is 7 & she just needs a bit of help rinsing shampoo from her hair. I would never have believed how fast time goes between giving them their 1st bath (& being absolutely terrified) & listening to your dc sing in the shower!

sweetcat · 05/10/2007 15:40

lol at fortune cookie and singing in the shower!

My DD is 7 and baths with her brother, 23mths so I am always there. Trouble is her last school report said she needed to learn to sing in tune so she has joined the choir and insists on performing her repertoire nightly. Oh dear

fortunecookie · 05/10/2007 15:50

And she spends an age in there, which drives me mad because she's always telling me to turn off the tap when I brush my teeth!
